Diamond Beach Iceland: Access, Parking and Tours

Updated on November 7, 2026

Diamond Beach is reached on foot from the Jökulsárlón car park: a path under the Jökulsá bridges leads about 1 km to Eystri-Fellsfjara, and one parking payment of ISK 1,110 per car covers both the lagoon and the beach (Vatnajökull National Park and Parka, read 7 November 2026). Practical info

Tips

  • Jökulsárlón, Eystri-Fellsfjara and Vestari-Fellsfjara form a single fee zone: ISK 1,110 for a private car of up to five seats, ISK 1,440 for six to nine seats, ISK 450 for a motorcycle, plus an 89 ISK fee, valid until midnight so you can leave and return the same day. If you already paid the full fee at another chargeable Vatnajökull National Park site that day, such as Skaftafell, the second fee is 50 % off with the same payment method. The area is reachable year-round because Route 1 runs through the plain, and park rangers who supervise it daily can be reached on 842-4355. The national park posted a notice of a temporary closure of the main Jökulsárlón car park on 1 October 2026, so read its news before driving. Add the boat tour at the lagoon if you want the ice from the water, or the neighbouring park at Skaftafell for a walk.

How to get there

The beach is on Breiðamerkursandur beside Route 1, south-east Iceland. Drive east along the south coast or book a long day tour from Reykjavík (see how to get around Iceland).
